10/01/2003 Archived Entry: "Traffic Congestion Is Worse"

Big news: the traffic congestion is getting worse! What motorcoach driver didn't know that. But now there's new information on how bad it is, and indications it could be worse if some remedies hadn't already been taken in many areas of the nation. The Texas Transportation Institute, part of Texas A&M University, has published a new "Urban Mobility Report" detailing the situation and current rankings of the nation's worst traffic areas. Los Angeles tops the list, to no one's surprise, I'm sure, followed by San Francisco. Philadelphia and New York City, my two most frequent destinations, surprisingly rank 26th and 27th respectively, so I guess I should be happy. Here's a news release that summarizes the findings; here's a PDF file of the full report; and here is an overview of the 75 urban areas they ranked so you can see where your most common destinations stand.
