09/03/2005 Archived Entry: "US Open, Flushing, NY"
Thursday I had a trip to the US Open tennis tounament in Flushing, NY -- the Borough of Queens, New York City. It's a fun place to get to; the roads, especially in Brooklyn (Rt. 278), are so rough I lost a hub cap on one of the tag wheels.
So the photo to the right doesn't exactly look like a tennis match, huh?! Well, it just so happened that my favorite baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies, were playing the Mets on Thursday at Shea Stadium in a 1 PM game. And bus parking for the US Open happens to be -- you know if you've been there -- at Shea Stadium! I arrived with my group about 11 AM, joined several other drivers for lunch at a diner on College Point Blvd., then went to the 1 PM game at Shea. I had to check with a supervisor at the gate, but after a short wait, he let me into the game through a side door. The game was over well before it was time for the group to return, so I even got a nap after the game. And the Phillies won, 3-1! Can't have a much better day than that, can you?!
