02/02/2005 Archived Entry: "E-ZPass Now Accepted on Maine Turnpike; New Hampshire to Follow"

As of yesterday, February 1, 2005, you can now use E-ZPass on the Maine Turnpike. E-ZPass replaces Maine's Transpass system which is being discontinued. That's the good news; the bad news is that tolls also went up for the first time in six years on the same day. For more information, click here.

The switch came just a few days too late for my most recent trip. I just returned from a four day trip to the Sunday River ski area near Bethel, Maine, on Sunday night. Besides Maine, New Hampshire was the only New England state through which I passed that did not yet accept E-ZPass. However, New Hampshire is also installing E-ZPass on its toll roads, being phased in over the first quarter in 2005, so stopping to pay tolls will soon be a thing of the past there, also. New Hampshire Turnpike information is here.

That is good info! I never understood why you could use EZ-Pass only so far north on 95. I hope we never have to pay tolls here in CT.
