01/12/2005 Archived Entry: "New Drivers' Photo Gallery Online!"
I'm working on a few additions to the EightWheels.com site, and the first is ready to announce -- the new EightWheels.com Drivers' Photo Gallery! As you know, I often include small photographs in my blog, but I wanted a way to exhibit more photos than I can include here as well as show them in larger sizes. Plus I'm not the only driver with photographs to show off, so I wanted a way to allow other drivers to upload photos, too. The EightWheels.com Drivers' Photo Gallery is the answer to both needs!
I only have a couple of dozen photos in the Gallery so far, but more are coming. They're organized into small albums in several different categories that I expect to expand over time.
In addition, other drivers -- you! -- can create your own albums in the user galleries section. First you'll need to register by clicking the "Register" link at the top of the page (don't forget to confirm the email message you receive), then log in and click the My Gallery link to set up your first album. Read the FAQ, also linked at the top of the Gallery home page, for more information and help in uploading your photos. Photos must be less than 1 MB in size, and no more than 1,024 pixels in their longest dimension (I generally limit mine to no larger than 800x600 pixels, and about 100K in size, so at their largest display size they'll fit on almost any monitor). Thumbnails and medium sizes are automatically generated when you upload photos, so that part is very easy. Let me know if you have any problems; I'm still getting to know the software myself, as this is the first site I've installed a photo gallery like this. Oh, and btw, photo uploads are moderated -- I have to approve them before they're visible to others -- to prevent abuse or inappropriate photos; so give me a little time to do so, but I'll try and keep up with that every day.
Scroll to the bottom of the gallery and you can see what photographs have most recently been added -- mine and others. You can also rate photos and add comments as you view them -- I encourage you to do that! As long as spam doesn't become a problem I plan to leave the commenting feature turned on. Enjoy!
