10/03/2004 Archived Entry: "Atlantic City, Mount Vernon, New York City"

Mount Vernon, VA (17k image)The last part of the week included trips to some of the most popular tour bus destinations. Thursday I drove for a company tour to Atlantic City, to the Sands Casino -- a boring but easy day. Friday was a long day to Washington, DC with a middle school group. We began with a visit to Mount Vernon, VA (photo at right), George Washington's home. From the flower garden at Mt. Vernon (9k image)I enjoyed that -- it was my first visit, and they treat drivers well -- free admission, discounted food, lots of photo opportunities there (flower photo at left was one of many I took in the garden there). There is a lot of construction going on there as they expand the visitor areas, but it's still a great place to visit with a group and will only get better once the construction is finished. Bus parking is on the street to the right of the property as you approach it coming down the Washington Memorial Parkway. Following a visit there, the group stopped at several memorials and museums on the Mall in Washington, DC.

Yesterday (Saturday) I drove for a company tour to "Hairspray," playing at the Neil Simon Theater on 52nd Street in New York City. That theater is one of the easiest to drop off and pick up at -- I had plenty of room to pull off right by the theater, as I have on previous trips there.
