03/22/2004 Archived Entry: "Cheerleaders in Williamsburg, VA"
I returned last night from a three day trip to the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, with a busload of cheerleaders attending the ECA Nationals (Eastern Cheerleading Association). The competition drew cheerleading teams from all over the east coast and dozens of motorcoaches. Pictured at right is the William & Mary Hall, a huge athletic forum that was the site of the main competition. I stayed at the Ramada Inn Central on Richmond Road, just north of Williamsburg, and was able to park the coach overnight at Captain George's Seafood Buffet next door. The hotel was nice (but no high speed Internet yet, although the lady at the front desk told me they're putting in wireless access "soon"), the weather was beautiful (60ƒF Saturday and Sunday), the group was very pleasant, the trip went smoothly, so it was a great weekend. On the return trip we stopped at Fuddruckers for dinner (Exit 158B on Route 95, just south of Washington, DC) -- first time I was ever at a Fuddruckers, and that was good, too. The manager was happy to see us on a Sunday night, and assured us that drivers are always treated to a meal when they bring a group (I had called ahead to make sure they were expecting us).
Wednesday I had another trip to the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. It was a cold, gray day and I didn't feel like going back into the city after parking at Hansen's, so I hung out in the bus most of the day, reading email I had downloaded that morning (it would be SO nice if Hansen's put in a wireless hotspot, don't you think?!), and listening to an audio book. A relaxing but boring trip -- but those are nice once in a while, too.
