11/24/2003 Archived Entry: "Parking in South Philly Improving -- Slightly"
Six in a row! The Eagles have won their last six games, beating the New Orleans Saints yesterday 33-20. There was a big crowd again -- demand has really increased for tickets since they're doing so well, and I didn't get into the game.
I did learn, however, that bus drivers are now "cool," according to one of the ticket takers at the gate, and after taking my name, company, and coach number, I was given 30 minutes to go into the stadium, use the restrooms, get something to eat, and/or visit the pro shop. I was supposed to report back to the same person upon leaving within 30 minutes, and I tried to do that, but she was on break. I seem to be running into that a lot lately. Anyway, it was nice to get in for half an hour.
The parking situation is improving slightly. Two more large parking lot sections had been paved and lined since the last game, so there are now many more spaces available -- probably about all that will be available for this year, until the Vet is torn down. However, as you can see from the above photo, buses are still mixed in with cars, a far from ideal situation. I always arrive early enough to get an end spot near an exit, so it's not too bad. But I surely hope a real bus parking area is created once the Vet is gone and the parking lots completed.
Behind my coach in the photo above is the Vet (Veterans Stadium), to be torn down in February 2004. At the left is the new Phillies stadium under construction, Citizens Bank Park, to open in April 2004. Peeking out just to the right of that, off in the distance, is the "Linc," Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, which just opened this year (see the Archives for photos).
