10/22/2003 Archived Entry: "National Constitution Center, Philadelphia"

National Constitution Center (26k image)

I took a group of senior citizens to visit the new National Constitution Center in Philadelphia today. It's the first time I was there, so I spent some time walking through it ($6 admission for adults). It's a beautiful building, a great exhibit for history buffs -- very educational, and very well done. The 20-minute show in the circular Kimmel Theater is a very nice introduction to your visit there.

Loading/unloading is very easy; buses enter from Race Street between 5th and 6th Streets (photo below left). Parking for motorcoaches is about 7 blocks away at "Lot 38" -- on Callowhill Street near 2nd Street, near the foot of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Cost is $20 to park for the day, unlimited in/out, or $30 for 24 hours. The entrance to the parking (center photo, below) is rather inconspicuous and easy to miss. But it's a decent parking area for about 40 buses, and includes a nice drivers' lounge (photo below right), complete with restrooms (even a shower), vending machines, TV, and free coffee. Note: there is a link on the Links page, under "Parking and Other Local Information," with more information and a map of the area.
