09/28/2003 Archived Entry: "Longaberger Land"

I arrived in Dresden, Ohio Longaberger Homestead's Big Apple Basket yesterday for a three day trip to Longaberger land. It's my first time here, and, I have to say, I'm impressed with what I've seen so far (just Longaberger Homestead). The company is a master at marketing, no doubt about it. But they have some great products (not just baskets!), and the money was quickly changing hands while I watched!

On the way to Ohio, we passed numerous convoys of utility repair vehicles moving west -- trucks from states including Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, and even Alabama. I assume these were all here helping the rest of us in the east recover from hurricane Isabel; sure is nice to have such helpful neighbors.

Steve's Obvious statement of the day: "That is a big Basket."

And them's some big apples, too! Four feet in diameter, matter of fact. But the basket isn't the biggest one -- the biggest basket in the world is nearby in the town of Dresden. It's 48 feet long (longer than my coach!), 25 feet high, and 11 feet deep. I may post a picture when I get a chance.
