02/26/2005 Archived Entry: "Buses Safer than All Other Travel"

According to a sidebar graphic published two days ago in Rochester, NY's Democrat and Chronicle newspaper (based on US Bureau of Transportation statistics data), buses are safer even than flying -- in fact, they are the safest form of travel! Click here for the page with the sidebar on buses. The graphic shows the number of fatalities per 1 billion miles traveled (1998-2002), with motorcycles being the least safe (241.9 fatalities per billion miles), and highway buses (motorcoaches, tour buses, charter buses) the safest (0.3 fatalities per billion miles). Cars are at 7.9; airline carriers at 0.4 fatalities per billion miles are almost as safe as buses. We need to spread the word!
