04/05/2004 Archived Entry: ""Bombay Dreams""
Wednesday found me in New York City at a Broadway show once again, but a little different than usual: I took them to "Bombay Dreams," a new Broadway musical that is still in previews, with a planned opening date the end of April. It's playing at Broadway Theatre at 53rd and Broadway. One of the actors in the musical is Sriram Ganesan, a former student at a local high school, and the group I took included mostly teachers from the school going to show their support as well as see a brand new show. He met with all of the group following the show and took a number of them backstage. Everyone really liked the show.
It was an evening show -- the first time I ever took a group into NYC at that hour of the night. It took us nearly 45 minutes to get through Lincoln Tunnel, but the return trip was a breeze -- virtually no tunnel traffic at midnight! Or, at least, it seemed that way, compared to what NYC is normally like. Parking was also a non-issue -- lots of parking on a Wednesday evening. The only negative -- the hotspot on 54th & 11th was down, and the library closed at 6 PM, so I had no Internet connection for the evening. I went to dinner at the Olympic Flame Diner on 10th Avenue, met some nice drivers in NYC on a six-day trip from Michigan, and walked back to the coach.
