But it was great while it lasted! The Eagles lost 14-3 to the Panthers Sunday evening to miss their opportunity to win the NFC Championship and a ticket to the Super Bowl for the third year in a row. Too many injuries, too little offense, and perhaps a little underestimating of the competition led to the Eagles' demise.
The tailgating ended in style, however, in the final home game of the 2003-2004 football season at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Steaks, chicken, and Alaskan king crab were on the menu, all cooked on a six-foot portable grill (photo at right), with the fixin's and burgers cooked on a three-foot grill next to it. A tent canopy nearby kept the afternoon raindrops off a large color TV powered by a portable generator, the TV tuned to keep tabs on the early game as the Patriots defeated the Colts for the other slot in the Super Bowl. Fresh shrimp, baked potatoes and yams, hot pork sandwiches, cupcakes, brownies and more were also on the menu; if you went hungry, you probably weren't on my motorcoach. Maybe it would have helped if the Eagles players had stopped by for a bite before the game -- we'd have probably had enough food!
