About the time … yeah, I'm having some problems with that. It's a server issue, hopefully I'll have a fix for it shortly. Anyway, welcome to the forum, Jack — nice to have you here and help get things started! Good luck with your new position.

I have completed my first week of training at Indian Trails . Lot to take in. Going to take a little time to transfer from driving a semi to driving a bus. Going to put some more road time in next week. Will keep you up to date on how things are going.

I would think it's probably easier going from driving semi to driving motorcoach, than the other way around, as far as the physical aspects of driving the vehicle are concerned. The people issues, however, once you start carrying passengers, add a whole new perspective to the job, and is where a lot of truck drivers fail to make the transition. Sounds like you might be a "people-person," though, so you should be okay. Keep us posted!

Well, done with my second week of trainning. Indian Trails really stressing the following distance between coach and vehicle in front. Did trainning for skills test and being prepared for pre trip and road test to get P endorsement. I thought having a CDL- A would over ride a B for a road test.

Did alot of driving this week, 2 lane roads, hiway, city driving  and night driving. 2 weeks to go then we are on our own. Will keep you updated.

Hello everyone.  I am Joe (JWS) from West Virginia.  I have posted some things on the EightWheels site and it is great to see the forum back.

I have only been driving a tour bus for right at two years.  Before that I had driven a school bus and for a very short time, like less than 2 weeks, I drove a semi.  My hat is off to all you semi drivers.  I could not stand the empty cab.  But driving a tour bus has its issues also.  I have had semi drivers tell me they could not do what I do.. LOL.  You absolutely have to be a people person to drive a tour bus.

God Bless you all out there and keep the lanes safe.

Hi guys.

Been driving since the first of March.  Really love it but not getting enough runs.  The economy has hurt the company I'm with.  Right now I don't get to take the tours.  I'm mostly a relay driver.  I get some day runs thrown in as well.

I love this website.  Been watching it for a while.  Love the photo's.

I drive out of the midwest.  St. Joseph Mo. to be exact.  Most of the time I drive those stinking DL's.  You need 40 acres to turn those busses.  They're older and good for day runs.  They ride awesome on the highway.  You just can't make tight turns.

The tours get to ride in the J's.  They don't have as good a ride on the highway but at least you can turn.  They trained me in a J and then sent me out in a DL.  Never bothered to tell me they don't turn as sharp.  Learned the hard way.  Had to put it in reverse a few times.

Glad to be part of the forum.

Interesting … I guess the ride is a subjective thing. But in my opinion, the ride in the J's (MCI J4500) is significantly softer and more pleasant than in the D models. One problem with some of the older J's (pre-2007, especially) is that they sway too much, so much so that customers occasionally complain and are more susceptible to car sickness. That's been corrected on the newer J's, however, with an outboard shock between the tag and drive wheels.

No question, however, that the D's don't turn nearly as sharply as the J's. Big difference in the turning radius!

Admin note — I upgraded the forum software on the server this evening, so this is a test post to make sure everything is working okay. Looks like it is. :-)
